If you get a chance to read my discussion page, you will notice a question concerning a strange voice that appears on John Lennon's "Just Like Starting Over." The voice "seems' to say, "Late at night, You're going to be killed..Mark David." One problem concerning "backward tracks" and distorted recorded voices often lie in what I like to call "guided listening." If the listener has advance knowledge as to a passage's meaning he is more than likely able to hear that meaning and bring it to his consciousness. Now, since today is John Lennon's birthday, October 8th, let me suggest this incredible coincidence. First, you need the photo insert from "The Magical Mystery Tour." Find the photo of John standing next to a sign saying "The Best Way to Go is by M & D Co (Incomplete)." John is sporting a huge walrus style mustache, but the strange significance is that the sign mentions "The Best way to go" and "M & D C" that suggests that the sign predicts Lennon's death ("The Best Way to go") and then includes the intials of his assassin, Mark David Chapman (M D C ). Now for the real creepy part. "The Magical Mystery Tour" was released on December 8, 1967--an unlucky thirteen years to the day that Lennon would be murdered by Mark David Chapman.
This small section is from my new book, "Take a Walk on the Darkside: Rock and Roll Myths, Legends, and Curses." In February I'll send a detailed look at the Buddy Holly Curse.
I've also been asked to do a live chat to answer a few more questions and I personally think that would be fun. If you're interested let me know and we'll set one up. Also, I enjoy hearing from you. If you have some new mystery please share it with me!
Sincerely,
Gary
